Broman Syrah

 

 

This 2004 Broman Napa Valley Syrah was produced from grapes from two different vineyards in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley.  This wine is 100% Syrah and was aged in French oak for approximately 28 months.

Winemaker’s Notes:
Bob Broman finds the Oak Knoll District to be a “sweet spot” for syrah.  This one is a powerhouse wine; inky, ripe and satisfying.  Blueberries and blackberries mesh with earthy qualities, bacon fat and leather undertones.  This wine is plush and full on the palate with long, lingering tannins.

Wine Spectator gave this Syrah 91 points!

Eggs Benedictus!

Ingredients

8 large eggs
1 gal water
1 ½ Tb. seasoned rice vinegar
8 slices Applewood smoked bacon, cooked, reserve fat
2 Tb olive oil
8 slices French Bread, sliced on the diagonal
1 1/2 pds. fresh baby spinach
salt and pepper to taste

 Lisa’s Hollandaise

Ingredients

1 shallot , minced
1 pat sweet butter
½ cup white wine
1 lemon, squeezed
½ cup heavy cream
1 stick sweet butter
salt and pepper to taste

Directions

In a sauce pan, sweat the shallots in the pat of butter, about 1 minute. Add the white wine and lemon and reduce by half. Add the cream and reduce by ¼. Whisk in the remaining butter and season to taste. In a cast iron skillet cook the bacon. Reserve the fat and add 2Tb olive oil and lightly brown the French Bread. Add the spinach and a touch of water with salt and pepper and wilt. Boil the water with the vinegar and reduce to a simmer. Make the sauce. Start assembling the dish.

Place 2 pieces of bread on a plate. Place a  piece of bacon  on top of each, then in 8th’s place spinach on top of each bacon slice. Carefully place an egg on top of that and then pour a light amount of sauce on top of that. EAT!!!
