About Merryvale Vineyards

Merryvale Vineyards is a family-owned Napa Valley winery dedicated to passionate winemaking and the fine art of living well. For the past 25 years Merryvale has been turning exceptional Napa Valley grapes into world class wine. Merryvale is world renowned for rich, powerful Cabernet Sauvignons and Chardonnays, the iconic Bordeaux-style red blend, Profile, and their everyday drinking, fruit driven brand, Starmont. Merryvale’s historic building was the first winery built in the Napa Valley after the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, and has become a must see attraction for visitors to the valley.

Winemaking
Our Napa Cabernet received choice lots from our Estate Vineyard located in the hills high above St. Helena, as well as fruit from other top Napa vineyards, including Stagecoach and ToKalon. The fruit was hand-picked and triple sorted before undergoing extended maceration for increased flavor and color. The wine was aged for 25 months in 70% new French oak, with minimal handling.

Vintage
The 2006 vintage has been described as a “growers” year by some vintners. After a late bud break due to an unseasonably cool spring, the Napa Valley experienced a record setting heat wave in July which allowed the grapes to catch up in ripening. An ideal mild weather pattern came in August and an “Indian Summer” followed into October allowing for slow and even ripening resulting in acids and sugars in perfect harmony.

Tasting Notes
Our 2006 Napa Cabernet is dark purple in color with aromas of violets, cassis framed by cedar and vanilla. The mouthfeel is focused with fine tannins and a long finish. We recommend pairing this wine with a prime Rib-Eye steak off the grill.
